The Learning Path method in blended training design

It is not enough to buy eLearning courses to create effective blended learning courses. For a course to become a significant learning experience it needs a story, an idea and an image illustrating the content. This was the topic discussed in the preparatory workshop, held in the beautiful Milanese showroom of the Miroglio Group on 12 May 2016, in which the main theme was the Learning Path and blended design. The day began with an introduction by Giovanni Sandri – Miroglio Fashion HR Director – who explained the training model adopted by the Group to his colleagues, highlighting the importance of the combination of the different methodologies and the use of tools to receive contributions and experiences from participants in training courses. Gamification and storytelling are proving to be essential both for staff engagement and for the timely construction of specific paths for individual target training populations. The right mix of methodologies, tools and languages ??is the culmination of effective blended design, which gives rise to practical learning paths, customised and simple to develop (going beyond the logic of the training catalogue). The intervention of Lorena Patacchini, Project Manager of Amicucci Formazione, focused on this issue: on variety, the numerous methods and tools that facilitate learning: “Blended training makes us cross and recross the same concepts from different starting times and in different ways, multiplying our points of view and our understanding. “But sometimes mixing the ingredients is not enough. The recipe is not the same for everyone. The designer must choose and dose the ingredients, build solutions that facilitate learning, taking the people, context, methods and timescales into account. Designing means governing the way in which learning is facilitated, taking into account all the key words of blended training: variety/multitude concepts, utility and creativity, interaction and customisation, familiarity and the commitment to the importance of communication and nourishment. After a short break, he moved on to practical issues with Alessandra Scapati, Head of Design at Amicucci Formazione, who emphasised the importance of visualisation, storytelling and experience in the design of any course. The learningPath format allows switching from an eLearning product logic to that of a learning experience, presenting not only resources but training activities and methods that contribute to a new training narrative, able to engage and excite the recipients. After illustrating the application of the Skilla learningPath model (previously defined learning paths with pre-selected training resources, and kits to support trainers and communication) the participants, who were divided into groups, were involved in a hands-on-lab design. The workshop concluded with the presentation of projects and a networking light lunch in eLearning exploration style.
