8 possible uses of Training Pills: how to exploit the potential of the Nourish with Knowledge library

The Nourish with Knowledge library: 150 Training Pills for a total of 1500 multimedia objects in Italian and English, accessible from any device. How to fully exploit this wealth of resources? How to identify the strategy of use most suitable for one’s training objectives? Here’s a brief overview of 8 possible uses of the training Pills, based on 3 fundamental dimensions:

TARGETS – THEMES – METHODS

TARGET. Courses can be created which are centred on the target, in which the starting point are the recipients of the training. Once homogeneous groups of persons have been precisely identified for training, the most appropriate training Pills can be selected from the library in order to develop the key competences for each target. Some examples of for “professional families”:

  1. Training of a sales network, involving the core competencies to ensure a focus on the customer, to create value and develop business
  2. Training of new Managers, involving leadership skills such as: team management, motivation, delegation, decision making, conflict management
  3. Training of new recruits, involving key skills for properly integrating into the new company environment

THEMES. Another possible point of departure is that of business topics i.e. the key skills which it is sought to focus on. After the skills are identified, it is possible to select the most suitable training Pills. The Pills can then be provided exhaustively to the whole company or addressed only to specific targets, intersecting both dimensions – targets-themes. Let’s look at some examples of courses focused on themes/key skills for companies:

  1. Hospitality and quality of service, the key skills to satisfy the customer and foster his loyalty
  2. Performance management, training Pills aimed at the persons assessing and the persons being assessed in order to better manage and experience the process of assessing competencies and skills, and transforming it into an opportunity for development: allocation of objectives, feedback, growth plans and so on
  3. Interculturality and diversity management, courses in Pills to foster the management and inclusion of diversity in the company (gender, age, culture, disability)
  4. Project management, core competencies for the management of projects

METHODS. The methodological component also plays a central role in the definition of plans for the use of the training Pills. The methods of use are varied and can be applied in pure eLearning, in blended learning, in the classroom. Let’s look at one of the most innovative methods:

  1. The 360&deg model. This method, inspired by the theory of 360&deg feedback, involves a study program of 12 training Pills for each recipient of the training, selected as follows:

    – 4 Pills are selected independently by the person based on their own preferences (desire to enhance a skill, to fill a gap, to study a specific topic). – 4 Pills are selected by the manager on the basis of the assessment of skills – 4 Pills are recommended by a colleague who works alongside the person and understands his or her behaviour, also in terms of strengths and areas for improvement.

Intersecting the 3 dimensions (targets, themes, methods) it is possible to set up a useful matrix model that allows us to create different combinations which meet specific training needs from time to time. Some of the main uses of the Nourish with Knowledge library will be dealt with in greater detail in the webinar of Amicucci Formazione planned for 2015.
