Self-learning via the web

How does self-learning via the web work? Our passions and desire to improve our well-being drive us to setting increasingly high goals: achieving them is not always easy and there are often skills or knowledge that need to come into play. It is therefore important to be able to develop or improve the necessary skills, without losing sight of everyday tasks and work. Learning via the web allows us to increase these abilities autonomously, choosing when and how to achieve our desired goals. The C.A.M.P.U.S. method, devised by Skilla, provides 6 steps on how to approach, develop and certify an online self-learning experience. Let’s take a look at the steps: 1 – Awareness. Understanding which elements lead us to undertaking a self-learning path, such as the need to improve professionally and/or otherwise. An awareness of our potential, strengths and weaknesses is an essential step for beginning this type of process. 2 – Self-fulfilment. The need for an impulse towards self-fulfilment, setting a goal or a target, stimulates and drives people towards the acquisition of new knowledge, which is perceived as a means to achieve the goal. 3 – Study method. Understanding our own learning style and acquiring a study method. It is useful to adapt the method according to our intellectual and emotional characteristics and know how to choose the most suitable process. 4 – Practice. The tools and environments used for online learning require practice and awareness. Unlike traditional training that uses meetings, classes and teachers in person, self-study involves the autonomous planning of training times and methods. 5 – Use. To begin a self-learning path, it is essential for you to be familiar with and actively use technological environments, platforms or social networks to interact with colleagues, peers, tutors and teachers. Besides knowing MOOC and environments such as YouTube and Slideshare, it is important to know how to search the web for resources and information and be able to find and share them. 6 – Development. During the development of the learning path, it is advisable to certify the progress and the skills acquired. Growth measurements, such as gamification, and certification systems, such as Open Badges, stimulate users and help them become aware of their results. These steps allow us to produce a better plan and get the most out of our self-learning path. Lorenzo Perrone
